Free AI Coding Tools: What Each Free Plan Includes
Short answer. Of the 14 AI coding tools we track, 11 had a free plan, as read October 17 to 22, 2026. Claude Code had none: Claude marks it “No” on its free plan. Neither did Replit, nor Gemini Code Assist, whose business page sells none; its unpaid individual tier’s tools were “replaced by Antigravity CLI and Antigravity on June 18th 2026”.
In plain words. A usage limit is how much you can use a tool before it stops or asks you to pay. Each tool counts in its own unit: requests, credits, messages, tasks or tokens. So limits cannot be compared. A token is a short piece of text, about three-quarters of a word.
Whether there is a free plan is often the first question about an AI coding tool. Our AI coding tools page tracks 14 of them, and each one’s pricing page answers it differently. Some print a plan called Free at $0. Some sell the tool only inside a chat subscription, so the answer depends on that subscription’s free plan. One describes its free plan in a table with no price at all. This post goes through all 14, quotes what each free plan includes and what limit each page sets, and lists what each page keeps for its first paid plan.
Every price and line below is quoted as the page printed it on the day it was read. The limits are never lined up against each other: a credit in one tool is not a credit in another, and a request is not a message.
Which tools have a free plan
Eleven of the 14 have one: GitHub Copilot, Cursor, OpenAI Codex (through ChatGPT’s free plan), Devin, Amazon Q Developer, Kiro, Bolt, v0, Lovable, JetBrains AI and Jules.
Three do not: Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist and Replit. Each is covered below with its cheapest plan.
Three of the tools have no price list of their own. Claude Code comes with Claude’s plans, Codex with ChatGPT’s and Jules with Google AI’s. For Claude Code and Codex, the answer comes from the free plan of that subscription. Jules is different: its own plan table has a free column, while Google’s free plan does not mention it.
What each free plan includes
In the order of the AI coding tools page. Lovable’s page was read in Spanish and is quoted in Spanish, not translated. Lovable and JetBrains AI showed euros; no amount is converted.
| Tool | Free plan | What it includes (quoted) | Limit, as the page puts it | Read on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GitHub Copilot | Free, “$0” | “Free plan Limited chat and agent usage”; “Free plan supports CLI and agent mode.” | “GitHub Copilot Free users are limited to 2000 completions and 50 chat requests (including Copilot Edits).” | October 19, 2026 |

| v0 | Free, “$0 /month” | “Deploy apps to Vercel”; “Edit visually with Design Mode”; “Sync with GitHub” | “7 message/day limit”; “$5 in one-time credits for new users” | October 22, 2026 |
| Lovable | Free, “€0” | “Colaboradores ilimitados”; “5 dominios lovable.app”; “Publicación solo por invitación” | “Créditos gratuitos”, with no number | October 22, 2026 |
| JetBrains AI | AI Free, “Free” | “Unlimited AI completion in JetBrains IDEs” | “3 monthly AI credits” | October 22, 2026 |
| Jules | Jules, no price printed | “Evaluating Jules on real work”; “Gemini 2.5 Pro” | “Daily Tasks (rolling 24 hours)”: 15; “Concurrent Tasks”: 3 | October 22, 2026 |
Update, October 23, 2026: GitHub’s Copilot plans page, read again on October 23, 2026, no longer says “50 chat requests (including Copilot Edits)”. It now says “GitHub Copilot Free users are limited to 2,000 completions and access to entry level models per month.” Its plan card still says “Free plan Limited chat and agent usage”. Prices and AI credit allowances were unchanged.
A few rows need a word. Codex’s free plan is ChatGPT’s, and OpenAI’s Codex pricing page lists it as a ChatGPT plan. The page gives no number for any plan’s allowance and explains why: “The number of messages you can send depends on the model used, size and complexity of your tasks, and whether you run them locally or in the cloud.”
Jules prints no price for its free column. Its page says “For our initial launch, paid plans are accessed through a Google One subscription”, and its “Plan | Jules | Jules in Pro | Jules in Ultra” table puts the plain “Jules” plan next to the two paid ones. The Jules row above quotes that column: “Best For” reads “Evaluating Jules on real work” and “Model Access” reads “Gemini 2.5 Pro”.
Bolt’s comparison table adds a daily cap to the monthly one. Its columns are Free, Pro, Teams and Enterprise, and one row reads “Daily Token Limit | 300K | No Limit | No Limit | No Limit |”.
The three without a free plan
Claude Code. Claude has a free plan, “$0 Free for everyone”, but Claude Code is not in it. Claude’s pricing page, read on October 17, 2026, has a comparison table headed “Features | Free | Pro | Max 5x | Max 20x |” with the row “Claude Code | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |”. The cheapest plan with Claude Code is Pro: “$17 Per month with annual subscription discount ( $200 billed up front). $20 if billed monthly.” Anthropic’s Claude Code page, read on October 19, 2026, says “Claude Code is included in your Pro plan. Perfect for short coding sprints in small codebases.” and “Prices shown don’t include applicable tax.”
Gemini Code Assist. The page read is Google’s page for teams and businesses, and it sells no free plan. It does mention an unpaid tier for individuals, and says it moved to other tools: “Unpaid tier (Gemini Code Assist for individuals) and Google One users only : Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions were replaced by Antigravity CLI and Antigravity on June 18th 2026.” The cheapest plan is Standard: “$19 per user per month with an upfront annual commitment.”, or “$22.80 per user per month.” without that commitment. Read on October 19, 2026.
Replit. The page lists Core, Pro and Enterprise, and none is free. The cheapest is Core, “$18 / month, billed annually”, which comes with “$20 towards more powerful models”. The page prints no labelled monthly price. Its “Free Mode” is part of the paid plans, not a plan: Core lists “Up to 30 hours of chat on Free Mode”. The page adds “*Prices are subject to tax depending on your location.” Read on October 19, 2026.
What you give up on the free plan
For each tool, what its own page lists for the first paid plan. Only that tool’s free plan is the reference; no tool is measured against another.
GitHub Copilot
The first paid plan is Pro, at “$10 per month”. GitHub’s documentation lists its credits in a table headed “Plan | Price per month | Base credits | Flex allotment | Total monthly AI credits |”, with the row “Copilot Pro | $10 USD | 1,000 | 500 | 1,500 |”. The plans page adds: “Code completions and next edit suggestions don’t use credits. They remain unlimited with every paid plan.” Beyond the allowance: “Keep working with paid usage. Set a dollar budget for additional usage and Copilot continues without interruption.”
Cursor
The first paid plan is Plus, at “$8 /month”, with a “Shared AI usage pool” instead of the Free plan’s “Limited AI usage”. It lists “Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine, and Build” and “Grok API access”, with the note “*Only Grok models are available on this plan”. The page’s footer says: “Prices shown do not include applicable taxes or fees (e.g. VAT).”
OpenAI Codex
The first paid ChatGPT plan is Go, at “$8 /month”: “Use Codex for lightweight coding tasks.” Go repeats the Free card’s “GPT-6 Luna at Standard speed in the desktop app, subject to rollout”. Plus, at “$20 /month”, is the first card with “Codex on the web, in the CLI, in the IDE extension, and on iOS” and “Cloud-based integrations like automatic code review and Slack integration”. The page adds: “ChatGPT Plus and Pro users who reach their usage limit can purchase additional credits to continue working without needing to upgrade their existing plan.”
Devin
The first paid plan is Pro, at “$20 per month”. It lists “Increased quotas, including access to frontier models from OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, and SpaceXAI, plus leading open source models”, “Full model availability”, “Access to cloud agents (Devin Cloud)” and “Purchase extra usage at API pricing”. The page says: “Each paid plan comes with a usage allowance that refreshes automatically on a daily and weekly basis.”
Amazon Q Developer
The first paid plan is the Pro Tier: “Pro Tier: Expanded limits $19/mo. per user”. It lists “Increased limits of agentic requests”, “Identity center support with admin dashboards and controls” and “IP indemnity”. For code upgrades: “Amazon Q Developer Pro subscription are allocated 4,000 LOC per month for upgrades using Amazon Q Developer transformation capabilities for Java upgrades.”
Kiro
The first paid plan is Pro: “KIRO PRO $20 per user / month 1,000 credits”. It lists “Access to premium models**” and “Add-on credits ($0.04/credit)”. The page explains a credit this way: “A credit is a unit of work in response to user prompts.” And: “Usage limits reset at the start of each billing month. Unused credits do not roll over to the next month.”
Bolt
The first paid plan is Pro, at “$25* /month” with “Billed monthly”, read by hand on October 20, 2026, or “$18* /month” with “Billed annually”. It includes “10M tokens/month, rollover included”, “Your own domain, no Bolt branding” and “Access to the newest AI models”. The comparison table shows the rollover: “Unused Tokens roll over | — Not included | Included | Included | Included |”. The prices carry “*Plus applicable taxes”.
v0
The first paid plan is Plus, at “$30” “/user/month”. It lists “Access to all models”, “$30 of included monthly credits per user”, “$2 of free daily credits on login per user” and “Purchase additional credits outside of your monthly usage shared across your team”. The page says “All prices shown are in USD and exclude value-added tax (VAT), goods and services tax (GST), and other applicable taxes.”
Lovable
The first paid plan is Pro, at “€25” “al mes”, or “€21” “al mes, facturado anualmente”. It lists “100 créditos mensuales”, “Acumulación de créditos”, “Recargas de créditos a demanda”, “Dominios personalizados” and “Quitar la insignia de Lovable”. The page, read twice, does not say whether its prices include tax.
JetBrains AI
The first paid plan is AI Pro, at “€100.00” “/per user, per year”, printed with “incl. VAT €121.00”. It lists “10 monthly AI credits”, “Junie”, “Claude Agent”, “Codex” and “Gemini”, plus a “Free 30-day trial”. Only the yearly view was read. On extra use: “Top up anytime and keep using AI features without interruption.”
Jules
The first paid plan is Jules in Pro: “Jules in Pro is included as a benefit of the Google AI Pro plan.” Google’s US page, read on October 17, 2026, priced Google AI Pro at “$19.99 / month”. In the Jules plan table, Jules in Pro gets 100 daily tasks and 15 concurrent tasks, and its model access reads “Higher access to the latest model (starting with Gemini 3 Pro)”. The page notes: “Paid Jules plans are accessed via a Google AI Plans subscription, which is currently available only for individual Google Accounts (ending in @gmail.com).”
Where every quote lives
Each tool has its own page with every quote and its date: GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, Devin, Gemini Code Assist, Amazon Q Developer, Kiro, Replit, Bolt, v0, Lovable, JetBrains AI and Jules. All 14, with every paid plan, are on AI coding tools. Nothing here says which free plan is better: each page sets its limit in its own unit.
How we checked
Ten of the 14 pages were read by a script from a server in Finland: nine on October 19, 2026, and Bolt’s on October 20, 2026, when its monthly prices were also read by hand. The pages of v0, Lovable, JetBrains AI and Jules were read by hand in a browser from Spain on October 22, 2026. Claude’s and Google’s subscription pages, for Claude Code’s free plan and Google AI Pro, were read by a script on October 17, 2026. This post was written on October 22, 2026, from the saved text of those readings; the pages were not read again for it. A test checks every quote against that saved text. Limits and credits are quoted as each page states them, never compared between tools, and no currency is converted.
